The story of Arnold & Son is as rich and eventful as the story of English watchmaking itself. The company was founded in 1764. In that year John Arnold constructed the smallest ever repeating and striking watch, which was set into a ring and presented to King George III as a gift. He developed timepieces so accurate that Captain James Cook used them on his South Sea Voyages from 1772 to 1775. In 1787 Arnold’s son John Roger joined the firm and the company became known as Arnold & Son. Such was Arnold’s standing, that he and his friend Abraham Louis Breguet often shared ideas and inventions to include in their timepieces. Today the brand’s superb watches are manufactured in Switzerland by the Anglo Swiss firm British Masters, who also own GRAHAM.
