Hamilton

Although today Hamilton is based in Biel Switzerland, it was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania USA in 1892, and at its peak it rivalled and, as far as mass production techniques go, even outshone the best of the Swiss brands. Hamilton played a pioneering role in timekeeping in the early days of the vast stretches of railroad that crossed America, and became known as ‘the watch of railroad accuracy’. Hamilton lost ground to the Swiss during World War II due to the fact it had to cease production of civilian watches to focus on the war effort, but in 1957 Elvis Presley proudly wore the Hamilton Ventura, an electrical watch, which was the world’s first battery powered timepiece. Today Hamilton is part of the Swatch Group and boasts several innovative collections including the Ventura, the Jazzmaster and the Khaki Field, Navy and Aviation.
