As another Baselworld is now history, we look back and hand-pick 10 of our favorite models this year. Some are extremely innovative, others very cool and a few are part of the “revamping” classics trend in the industry. Regardless of their particular features, they all meet at a common path: 2014 assured success.

TOP 10 Watches of Baselworld 2014 – TAG Heuer Carrera CH 80

Inspired by the original “panda” dial Carrera watches created in 1963 by Jack Heuer, the Carrera Calibre CH 80 Chronograph collection reinterprets the aesthetic established by its predecessors, giving them a modern and sporty look. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre CH 80 Chronograph houses the brand’s first in-house chronograph movement, which combines column wheel and vertical clutch with an 80-hour power reserve.

TOP 10 Watches of Baselworld 2014 – Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial

The new Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial brings the latest that Omega has to offer in this classic re-editon timepiece. The 41mm Seamaster 300 is available in a selection of several materials including stainless steel, platinum, titanium, 18K Sedna gold.

With the Seamaster 300, Omega introduces two new calibres, the Master Co-Axial 8400 and 8401, which not only provides the same accuracy, precision and reliability as the previously Co-Axial movements, but also feature Omega’s anti-magnetic technology, which ensures resistance to magnetic fields greater than 15,000 gauss. These COSC-certified chronometer movements, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, have a free sprung-balance with silicon balance spring and mounts two barrels in series for a power reserve of 60 hours. The Omega Seamaster 300 will be available worldwide later this year.

TOP 10 Watches of Baselworld 2014 – Tudor Heritage Black Bay (Ref. 79220B)

The Tudor Heritage Black Bay was first presented in 2012 in a vintage-looking version with a black chocolate dial, pink-gold hands and hour markers, and burgundy bezel. This year, at BaselWorld 2014, Tudor presented a new version of the Heritage Black Bay – with reference number 79220B – characterised by a deep-black dial, silvery hour markers and a midnight blue bezel which matches the colour of the crown tube.

The 41 mm steel case, with polished and satin finish, houses the self-winding mechanical movement, Tudor calibre 2824 (ETA 2824-2), offering a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. The Tudor Heritage Black Bay comes in either a leather strap or a steel bracelet. Regardless your choice it comes also with an additional fabric strap.

Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Chrono 2014

The Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Chronograph limited series has been issued every two years since 2002, which makes the 2014 model the 7th introduction in the series. In connection with Baselworld 2014, Chopard made a great decision to make this series a new permanent collection of watches.

This new model comes on a 44.5 millimeter titanium case with a silver-toned dial, showing off an awesome looking contrast with bright tones, black and yellow. As a reminder of the 70s traditions, the watch comes with a black Barenia leather with yellow stitching or a black and yellow NATO strap.

Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph 5960/1A In Steel

The new Patek Philippe Ref. 5960/1A Annual Calendar Chronograph in steel, was for sure a big BaselWorld 2014 surprise for many. In fact, rarely Patek Philippe uses steel cases for its complication watches with the exception of the Nautilus and Aquanaut collections.

The Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph, launched in 2006 (platinum and rose gold version) was the manufacture’s first automatic chronograph and introduced a new, bolder style with its monocounter and 6 o’clock and three large apertures for the calendar indications. The 40.5mm round case of the new 5960/1A comes in polished finnish, just like the matching five rows bracelet. The watch will be priced at $57,300.

TOP 10 Watches of Baselworld 2014 – Chopard L.U.C 8HF Power Control

Chopard unveiled the new L.U.C 8HF Power Control, an exceptional timepiece housing the L.U.C Calibre 01.09-L equipped with a sophisticated escapement beating at an impressive frequency of 8Hz or 57,600 vibrations per hour (ordinary mechanical movements beat at half that frequency or 28,800 vph).

But the movement is not the only element pushing the boundaries of technology in the L.U.C 8HF Power Control. The 42mm-diameter case comes in high-grade black machined ceramic, a material forced the Chopard engineers to entirely revise the case assembly. The L.U.C 8HF Power Control is delivered with a highly durable technical fabric equipped with a titanium pin buckle and is issued in a 250-piece limited series.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback

The reintroduced Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback (ref. 5200-0130) is equipped with a new self-winding F385 movement which includes, column-wheel chronograph mechanism and a vertical clutch with a flyback function which enables the wearer to reset and instantly restart the chronograph by simply pressing the pusher at 4 o’clock. The beating rate of the movement is 36,000 vibrations/hour.

The 43.60mm-diameter case of the Blancpain Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback is available in a brushed black ceramic version with a black dial, or in brushed steel with a meteor grey dial. The unidirectional rotating bezel, is made of black ceramic with LiquidMetal hour-markers so offering the high resistance to scratches.

The watch can be matched to an NATO fabric or sail canvas strap. For the steel version a metal bracelet is also available. The prices start at $15,000 for the steel and $17,000 for the black ceremic version.

Grönefeld Parallax Tourbillon Watch Collection – 1912 & RG

The Dutch Grönefeld brothers revealed their new beauty-the Parallax Tourbillon featuring a “flying” tourbillon with a large central seconds hand, stop seconds, as well as power reserve and winding/setting mechanism indications. The name “Parallax” is derived from the precision of the readability of the central seconds hand. The hand wound Calibre G-03 beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour/3Hz. Bart and Tim Grönefeld only use stainless steel bridges for their movements as it offers hardness and durability compared to the more generally used steel and brass.

The Parallax Tourbillon collection is available in a red gold or stainless steel case 43mm case. The “RG” red gold model is a limited edition of 28 pieces with a retail price of EUR137,450 while the “1912” stainless steel model is a limited edition of 12 pieces whose unit price is EUR134,250.

TOP 10 Watches of Baselworld 2014 – Omega Speedmaster Mark II

The Speedmaster Professional Mark II was first introduced back in 1969 as a variant of the traditional Speedmaster (Moonwatch). It was released in three versions: black dial and stainless steel case, red/orange/grey dials and stainless steel case, gold dial and gold case. All of them housed the hand-wound, space-tested Calibre 861 movement. The re-introduced version of the classic Speedmaster Mark II, updating it with the new Co-Axial calibre 3330, which comes equipped with an Si14 silicon balance spring, column-wheel chronograph mechanism and a new tachymeter scale illuminated from beneath by an aluminium ring filled with Super-LumiNova.

Omega has presented three models: black dial with steel case/bracelet, a black dial with black case/bracelet, and a third version with grey dial featuring an orange central chronograph seconds hand and a matching minute track.

The chronograph 30-minute and 12-hour sub-dials are positioned at 3 o’clock and 6 o’clock respectively while the small seconds sub-dial is at 9 o’clock. A flat scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the matt black or grey dial. The polished and brushed stainless steel case is barrel-shaped with polished crown and pushers. The case is fitted with a brushed stainless steel bracelet, complete with Omega’s patented rack-and-pusher clasp.

TOP 10 Watches of Baselworld 2014 – Rolex GMT-Master II (Ref. 116719BLRO)

Together with the new Cellini collection and the Sea-Dweller 4000, the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II with a red and blue ceramic bezel is the other big Rolex novelty from Baselworld 2014.

Many fans of the so-called Pepsi version of the GMT-Master II were waiting for this model, but creating this two-colour ceramic bezel was not a simple task for Rolex. Not only red is an extremely difficult colour to obtain in ceramic, but it is even more complex to ensure a sharp, precise and clear demarcation between the two coloured areas. Finally, Rolex found a way to locally modify the chemical composition of each grain, right to the core of the ceramic, and change the colour of half the insert from red to blue.

The 40mm satin-brushed and polished Oyster case is available in white gold only, at the moment. The Rolex GMT-Master II (ref. 116719BLRO) is water-resistant to 100 metres (330 feet).
