Is there a more suitable combination on a ladies watch dial than diamonds and mother-of-pearl ? I think not. Even so, the design department at Girard-Perregaux have employed a restrained use of sparkle on this, their latest Cat’s Eye Model. Instead the real allure of this piece is its charming little day and night indication.
In terms of ladies watches, this year we have seen the establishment of the “Every-day” watch – a timepiece which is practical for daily use and is styled to be comfortable and versatile enough to see you from desk to dinner date – in other words, a timepiece which you can reach for every morning without thought.
Girard-Perregaux Cat’s Eye – Girl Power
To this newly defined “niche” of every-day wear let us add the on-going development of ladies watches for which mechanical sophistication is a desirable feature, and it is not hard to see how the gorgeous Girard-Perregaux Cat’s Eye Collection slips perfectly into this new genre. It is supremely comfortable despite its voluptuous shape and with the exception of the high-jewelry models, it is ready to become an easy choice for lady clients who do not want to build a watch collection but who do still want to make a statement with a mechanically powered timepiece.
A bezel which has been set with diamonds is as equally at home in the daytime hours as it is after dark – for as much resplendence can be gained from sunlight as with candle or moonlight. With this in mind, how clever it is that Girard-Perregaux should remind their lady customers of the versatility of luxury, though the use of an indication which defines the division of daytime and night-time hours so beautifully.
The Cat’s Eye collection is known and loved for the sensuous characteristics of its generous oval case. Even though it measures 35.4mm x 30.4mm it has been styled to be comfortable with lugs which curve to conform to the feminine wrist. Earlier this year we featured the Cat’s Eye Power Reserve, complete with guilloché dial decoration, this model employs the same skilful art of engraving, but this collection is a diverse one and each edition takes on a different personality in line with its new fresh aesthetics.
Girard-Perregaux Cat’s Eye Day and Night – Luxury as Standard
On the Day & Night model, the guilloché fans out in orderly waves from the lower dial upwards. Each hour is indicated by a teardrop-shaped diamond-set marker except for the number “12” which has been curled fancifully. Polished gold leaf-shaped hands reflect the light as they indicate the hours and minutes and just below the 12 o’clock location, the Girard-Perregaux logo and branding take up their position.
On the lower dial, the day and night indication combines with a small seconds indication. Its disc has been created using 22-carat pink gold in keeping with the luxurious character of this model. It displays the moon with a starry surround on one half while the other replicates the full rays of the sun. The bezel which has been set with 62 brilliant-cut diamonds provides an opulent frame.
Inside the self-winding Girard-Perregaux calibre GP03300-0090 keeps time and a sapphire rear crystal enables a view of its superb finishing and gold rotor which features an engraving of the brand’s logo in the form of a repeating pattern. The new Girard-Perregaux Cat’s Eye Day & Night Edition has an 18kt rose gold case and comes in a choice of grey or white guilloché mother-of-pearl dial presented on a grey alligator strap (29’350 EUR) and 18kt rose gold bracelet.
