Flying Tourbillon

The flying tourbillon is a tourbillon that is only supported from one side. Invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801 the tourbillon is one of the most inventive mechanisms in watchmaking. It is fitted to the movement on certain high quality watch movements. It is a moveable supporting framework which contains inside it the escapement and regulator.

The tourbillons purpose is to try and eliminate the negative effects of gravity on the movement in order to obtain a greater accuracy. At the time it was considered revolutionary in watchmaking.
