Lunar Phases

A mechanism that displays the moon phases is equipped to some watches. The lunar phases are usually displayed through a small aperture in the watch’s dial. This opening often takes the shape of a crescent moon and is decorated with astronomy-related elements.

A lunar month is separated into four phases: new moon, first quarter, full moon and last quarter and each lunar cycle lasts 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds.
