Onion Watch

As the name implies this is a watch that is bulbous like an onion, and French in style.

These watches had cases made from brass that had been chiselled and engraved and appeared in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.

Occasionally gold or silver models can be found but generally this type of watch was aimed at the masses. The term “onion watch” eventually took on negative connotations denoting a watch of low quality.
