A. Lange & Söhne

Ferdinand A. Lange is one of the greatest names in German watchmaking. He arrived in what was then the poor and undeveloped Saxony town of Glasshutte near Dresden in 1845 and, through talent, foresight, dedication and determination, he built a thriving community of expert watchmakers which were eventually overseen by his two sons – the Söhne in Lange & Söhne. Whereas today, as part of the Richemont Group, A. Lange & is regarded as being among the world’s finest watchmakers, the company’s fortunes were not always as rosy. The company ceased to exist for some five decades following World War II when the Russians confiscated A. Lange & Söhne’s property. It wasn’t until 1990 when Walter Lange, the founder’s great grandson re-established the company together with Günter Blümlein. Since that time the Saxony watchmaker has delighted aficianados with their uniquely German take on haute horology with exceptional collections such as the Lange 1 family and the Unrivalled Masterpieces series.
