Although established as recently as 1994, luxury watch brand Glashütte Original can trace its origins directly back to F. Adolphe Lange who founded A. Lange & Sohne in 1845. It was Lange who brought the craft of watchmaking to the Saxony town of Glashütte. Both A. Lange & Söhne and Glashütte Original were part of VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe, an East German company known as GUB. This conglomerate oversaw all watchmaking companies in Glashütte following the establishment of East Germany after the Second World War. Glashütte Original is one of the few companies, especially in Germany, that manufactures its own movements, and has no less than ten proprietary movement innovations to its name. The brand is noticed for its stylish dress watches, many of which take their inspiration from retrospective designs including the GO Senator Sixties and Senties Collections, as well as Quintessentials, a series which pays homage to the traditions of Saxony watchmaking.
