Case Back

The case back as its name implies is the back of the watch. A watch case consists of three parts; the back, the centre-part or middle which houses the movement and the bezel which holds the crystal.

Case backs are screwed or snapped into place in the centre part of the watch. They are generally manufactured from solid metal with stainless steel being the most common back. High quality watches are also produced from precious metals.

In some cases a crystal is fitted into the case back so that the delicate mechanism of the movement can be observed. Watch details and other forms of decoration can be engraved on the case back.
