Shockproof

The balance and its components are very fragile and can be broken easily or misaligned without a shockproof system in the watch’s movement.

To protect them a shockproof system is used and this system safeguards the balance-staffs with narrow steel springs and usually a ruby applied at the end of each staff.

One of the most well known systems is the Incabloc system invented by Charles Ochsner.
